Meredith Melven
Ms. Melven is originally from Irmo, SC. She is a 2014 graduate of the University of South Carolina where she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Music with an emphasis in music education, as well as her clarinet performance certificate. Ms. Melven is also a graduate from Colorado State University where she completed her Master’s Degree in Music Education with a conducting emphasis. She has spent the last five years as one of the band directors at Oakbrook Middle School here in Dorchester Two. During her tenure there, the band program has grown to over 300 students, earned consistent superior ratings at SCBDA Concert Performance Assessment, and has regularly placed students in the Junior All-State and Region Bands. Ms. Melven has overseen the addition of the Oakbrook Jazz Band and Percussion Ensembles, as well as various chamber ensembles. Ms. Melven has also been an Assistant Director with the Fort Dorchester High School Marching Band for the past five seasons.
In addition to her experience as a musician and music educator, Ms. Melven also has an extensive dance background. She has been involved USC School of Dance student choreography showcases as a performer, a captain and choreographer of the Carolina Coquettes Dance Team, and she has been a clinician and judge with the Universal Dance Association (UDA), one of the country’s largest dance education organizations and competitive circuits.
Ms. Melven is in demand as a conductor and instructor, serving as a clinician at the 2019 Charleston Southern University Summer Music Camp and the 2021 SCBDA Region Four Junior Concert Band, as well as leading masterclasses and leadership sessions across the state.
